Tired of Social Media? Why Solopreneurs Should Choose Email Marketing (And How to Automate It)
👋 Hands Up If Your Life Isn't "Aesthetically Pleasing"
Same here.
Most of the time I live in jeans and a t-shirt with no make-up on. I’m either working from my office with its boring white walls, or I’m working at my kitchen table facing the dishwasher and oven.
I don’t know if this is a valid excuse, but I find it almost impossible to take photos and videos for social media because my background looks awful!
The rest of the time, I’m either doing mum stuff, asleep, or in the gym. The gym looks pretty, but my boundaries around my phone are so strong that I won’t take it into Pilates with me and I’d rather die than film myself working out.
I’m a 43 year old mum and I don’t want to be an influencer 😅
This is perhaps why I’ve always struggled to make social media work for my business.
✔️ I’ve tried to do reels.
✔️ I’ve had a Facebook group.
✔️ I ignored the cringe factor of my old colleagues seeing my posts and did LinkedIn for a year.
✔️ I’ve taken notes from successful Instagram accounts and applied those strategies to my business.
✔️ I’ve done daily posting and daily stories.
🤦🏼♀️ I’ve been on Instagram for 6 YEARS and I still haven’t hit 5000 followers.
Maybe my face doesn’t fit? Maybe I’m just too boring?
Why I Quit the Social Media Content Machine
The truth is: I don’t ENJOY creating for social media. I don’t even really enjoy consuming content on there. It always makes me feel like I do after eating a bag of Haribo Fangtastics: a bit sick and a bit bad inside!
My marketing strengths do not lie in always being “on”.
I also know to quit whilst I’m ahead. Creating for social media does not make money in my business.
I work part-time school hours and the reality is that social media marketing takes a lot more than the time and creative energy I have to give.
Do you feel the same?
The Marketing System That Works for Solopreneurs
My dream business is one that I can take time away from without leads and sales drying up.
Therefore, I need a marketing system that can carry on whilst I’m off doing boring-to-anyone-else-but-me mum and gym stuff.
The day I realised that I could step back from the social media content machine and simply stick with automating my marketing using EMAIL was one of those game-changing moments in business. This is the ideal email marketing system for solopreneurs who value their time.
The guilt about not posting for a few days (or weeks!) lifted along with the fear that my income would dry up.
Here’s the truth of it:
If you DON’T have a team working for you and you only have limited hours to get all your client work done and your own marketing and admin and you’d still like to have a life outside of work - you’ve got to automate!
Automating Your Income with Email Sequences
How do you automate? You create a simple nurture to lead journey with an email sequence. It runs all the time as soon as someone opts into your list.
Then you send one “live” email per week to the list which takes all of 30 minutes to write and schedule vs HOURS of time creating multimedia content for socials. This simple weekly email schedule is key to making sales without needing to create content for social media.
Once I prioritised automating my marketing with an email system that works for me as a busy solopreneur, and a couple of simple sequences, I was able to grow my business to consistent £8k-£10k months in my 20 hour week. What a WIN!
I’m not gatekeeping this automated marketing system. I’ve broken it down into 3 simple steps for you which you can grab right here.
