How to ‘Have It All’ as an online business owner and parent

I made my LIVE TV debut on GB News this month, talking about how as mums and entrepreneurs, we can have it all.

You can watch the interview back here. Fast forward to 1 hour 34 minutes.

This is part of my story that I shared in that 8 minute segment…

I left my secure job as a marketing manager with no savings and some debt thanks to earning part-time wages for 2 years after returning from maternity leave.

I don’t come from money and no one gave me a financial leg up to get started.

I didn’t even own a laptop so I bought a second hand one for £50 and made do with it being a bit slow. I ran my business from my kitchen table on my 4-year old laptop for the first year. I hated seeing the dishwasher in my peripheral vision but I didn’t have space for a home office.

😭 I worked around my toddler and thanks to the pandemic, broke down because I didn’t plan on running a business with zero childcare.

💔 6 months in, I broke up with 90% of my clients and started again because I didn’t enjoy what I’d created.

💝 3 years after leaving my job to run Cheer Up Marketing, I can finally say I do “Have it all” and you can, too.

Having it all is unique to YOU. What do you want your life to look like?

For me it means running my business in 20 hours a week and earning more money than ever before. I made over £100k in my business in 2022 - this is life-changing money for me!

It means I’m available to take my daughter to and from school. Take her to swimming lessons. Do fun stuff after school.

I’m also able to go to the gym 4 times a week. My health is a priority and I’m so grateful I can be healthy and make great money without feeling stressed.

Having it all does NOT mean being in control of everything at work and at home. I drop plenty of balls and I’ve made peace with that. I can’t do it all, but I can have a life that I love.

The online business world is an incredible opportunity for mums to make more money than in an employed job AND to have more time with the kids.

When you get it right, it can be the ultimate ticket to freedom, quality time with your loved ones and experiencing the ‘Good Life’ that comes with the satisfaction of building something for yourself.

💠 Do not underestimate how important it is to your happiness right now, to create for yourself and reflect on your progress.

I acknowledge the privilege I have as a university educated, straight, white, slim, able-bodied woman.

I’m sharing my story because I hope the angle of starting with nothing (and debt!) in less-than-perfect circumstances (pandemic and no childcare) will show people what’s possible with their knowledge and an Internet connection within the limited time available to us as busy parents.

What does “having it all” mean to you? Please let me know in the comments.
